Compare with two or three competitors
Run the link gap against websites that rank for the searches you want. Domains that link to several competitors but not to you are the strongest leads.

This tool works at the domain level. Open the website and search it for your competitor’s name to find the article, list or directory entry that links to them.

For your own site, Google Search Console’s Links report lists top linking sites from Google’s own data, including newer links that a public crawl may have missed.
Where the backlink data comes from
The referring domains come from Common Crawl’s public domain-level web graph, a free, open dataset built from billions of crawled pages.
A three-month snapshot
Each graph covers three months of crawling, and HyperGSC refreshes it about quarterly. New links appear after a later crawl finds the page that contains them.
Domain level only
The graph records which websites link to which, not the linking URLs, anchor text or nofollow status. For those details, use a paid backlink index.
Partial coverage
Common Crawl samples part of the web, so newer and smaller websites can be missing or show fewer links than they have. A missing domain does not mean it has no backlinks.

Each source crawls a different part of the web at different times. This tool uses Common Crawl’s public web graph, which covers less of the web than commercial indexes and is updated about quarterly. Search Console uses Google’s own data for your verified sites.
A new link appears after Common Crawl crawls the linking page and the next web graph is published, which can take several months. Search Console usually shows links to your own site sooner.
